Subject:A Message to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV from Prof. Bi Yantao
Your Holiness,
May peace and divine wisdom be with you.
I offer my heartfelt congratulations on your election as Pope Leo XIV. May your papacy be a beacon of reconciliation and unity for all humanity.
I write not as a professor, but as a humble seeker devoted to fostering deeper understanding among human beings—across all boundaries of culture, belief, and cognition. I am the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Communication Without Borders (CWB), a small but growing platform committed to the practice of what I call cognitive disembedding: a process by which individuals, communities, and organizations are guided to step beyond conditioned patterns of thought, in order to more fully comprehend and embrace cultural difference.
Our work is rooted in a deep conviction that true peace begins when we see not only with our minds, but also beyond them—when we learn to dissolve the walls of habit, bias, and separation that silently shape our perceptions. This aspiration resonates profoundly with both the Christian vision of reconciliation and the Buddhist teaching of non-discrimination and the universal equality of all sentient beings.
In your own journey—from your years among the people of Peru to your elevation as the Holy Father—you have embodied the very spirit of transcending boundaries, whether national, cultural, or religious. Your election as Pope Leo XIV has inspired many, including me, to believe that the Catholic Church remains a living vessel of grace, ready to listen and to speak to the world anew.
If it would be possible, I would be deeply honored—and the CWB community profoundly uplifted—if Your Holiness might offer a short message or blessing for those seeking to free themselves from socially constructed divisions and to walk toward unity in understanding. A few lines of encouragement, whether by email or post, would be treasured as a spiritual light and moral compass for those engaged in this gentle work.
Thank you, Your Holiness, for your witness to truth beyond division. Whether or not a message is possible, I remain grateful for your existence and example.
With deep reverence and respect,
Bi Yantao (Prof.)
