On October 20, 2015, Professor Bi Yantao met with the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje at Gyuto Tantric University near Dharamsala, India. The Karmapa, also known as the “Gyalwang Karmapa” or “the Great Treasure of Dharma King,” is the supreme religious leader of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and the traditional head of Tsurphu Monastery.
During the meeting, the Karmapa expressed concern about Professor Bi’s recent situation and patiently answered his questions. He also presented Professor Bi with a gift and personally wrote a blessing message for him.
The 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje has a broad international following. His profound religious knowledge and personal charisma have earned him the respect, devotion, and support of countless followers around the world.
In January 2017, the 17th Karmapa left India for visits to Europe and North America. He has not returned to India since then, giving rise to various speculations. His future movements remain a matter of close attention among relevant parties and have deeply concerned his many followers.
